Looking to the future

Article Abstract:

The electoral rules of Mexico, political institutions and the ways in which they interact with one other are investigated to explore how the present difficulties in Mexico after an amazingly close 2006 presidential election have developed and how they can be resolved. Electoral reforms, electoral-cum-institutional reforms and institutional reforms would be necessary to enhance the political stability of Mexico's democratic institution.

The paradoxes of shrinking the state in Latin America

Article Abstract:

The impact of globalization on Latin America has been to make it realise it needs some form of welfare and social program to cope with changes to society. Many states such as Mexico are raising taxes despite their political convictions.

An open society is the only path to development

Article Abstract:

Globalization is discussed with emphasis on its impact on different societies. The developed world and developing world have separate problems, but for both knowledge is important and an open society is vital.
