No to the European Union: Miljopartiet's success in the 1995 European Parliament elections in Sweden

Article Abstract:

Miljopartiet De Grona, Sweden's green party, received 17% of the vote and won four seats in the European Parliament (EP) in the Sep. 17, 1995, elections for the EP. The party's success mirrored the Swedish electorate's increasing discontent over the country's membership in the EU, which was gained in a Nov. 1994 referendum. The party should actively participate in promoting the green movement in the EP if it is to remain successful when the 1998 elections to the EP comes.

Living on the edge: Spanish Greens in the mid-1990s

Article Abstract:

The dismal performance of the Spanish Greens in the general and regional elections of mid-1990s may be attributed to the nature of Spanish party politics. In this country, the environmental movement is not united as seen from the entry of competing groups in the electoral race. In addition, the Spanish party system and the structure of its electoral system pose a variety of problems for green parties.
