NATO ministers address key European security issues

Article Abstract:

The foreign ministers of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) supported the presence of a UN force in Bosnia at the semiannual meeting of NATO's Defence Planning Committee and Nuclear Planning group in Brussels on June 8, 1995. A joint statement issued by the group also opposed the renegotiation of Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE) Treaty which imposes limits on armed personnel carriers, tanks and artillery pieces.

The post-cold war security council: forging an international consensus

Article Abstract:

The end of the cold war and the political changes in Eastern Europe has resulted in a new role for the UN security council. Political and ideological differences during the cold war which effectively limited the ability of the council to function are now gone. It is now working the way it was designed to. At present, the council is showing increasing effectiveness in dealing with threats to peace all over the world.

The ethics of national missile defense systems (NMD) involve both political and technological dilemmas, such as: what makes the US most secure from the most probable threats, and whether the NMD technology will ever be able to distinguish between real warheads and dummy missiles.
