New ethics for old? Or, how (not) to think about future generations

Article Abstract:

The author advocates punctuated reciprocity as the concept for defining the current generations' responsibilities toward future ones in regard to the conservation of natural resources. Punctuated reciprocity, or the introduction of a behavior that influences subsequent behaviors, would establish precedents for ethically based environmental decision-making.

The urban blind spot in environmental ethics

Article Abstract:

The author suggests that urban settings can provide unique opportunities for environmental education and stewardship, and address the non-anthropocentric bias of mainstream ecological theories. Topics include volunteer participation in restoration projects, which help form and affirm concepts of responsibility and awareness.
