Poland and NATO: the road ahead

Article Abstract:

The fall of the Soviet empire and Germany's reunification have placed Poland as the most likely candidate for membership in NATO because it has a potential strategic significance due to its political and economic stability, large size and population and its location between Europe and Russia. population, and size. In this way, Poland can become a corridor between the West and the East. Before becoming a full member of NATO, Poland will have to continue reforming its military and political systems in order to meet minimum standards that should be required by NATO.

Central Europe has joined NATO: the continuing search for a more perfect Habsburg Empire

Article Abstract:

The expansion of the NATO alliance into the Central European nations of Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary will increase the stability of a weak Central Europe and therefore effectively address a structural flaw in the overall European security system. NATO's action in accepting Central Europe is a prudent one for itself and for the new members as the alliance, in effect, replaces Central Europe's old Habsburg system with a new unifying structure that will ensure the stability of the entire European region.

Can NATO deliver?

Article Abstract:

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization's (NATO) credibility and effectiveness has been in question since its failure to prevent the Bosnian war. It is argued that NATO must meet three criteria to be effective in future peacekeeping efforts. These are increased involvement by member countries, consensus on NATO actions and successful cooperation with other countries. Issues relating to its proposed expansion are also discussed.
