Privilege and high honor to serve as executive director of the NAACP

Article Abstract:

Benjamin L. Hooks became executive director of the NAACP on Jul 28, 1977 after Roy Wilkins vacated the post. At the outset, Hooks planned for NAACP to grow in terms of membership and economics. Hooks wanted NAACP to have its own permanent headquarters, campaign for economic development and more educational opportunities as well as pursue justice and fair treatment for all. After 15 years of Hook's stewardship, the NAACP has grown to be the most effective national civil rights organization.

NAACP national office speaks out on Rodney King verdict

Article Abstract:

The verdict in the Rodney King case constitutes one of the most serious injustices in modern-day America. The acquittal of the accused by an all-white jury serves to encourage similarly inclined law enforcers to overstep their authority. The verdict has also convinced ethnic groups that a double standard of justice exists in the country. The King case is but one in a series of documented beatings and maltreatment of Black Americans.

NAACP flabbergasted on the acquittal of four white Los Angeles policemen

Article Abstract:

The acquittal of four white police officers in the Rodney King case is a blatant travesty of justice for all Americans. The innocent verdict sets the stage for future police attacks against hapless citizens. Although the jury's decision is to be strongly condemned, the NAACP is saddened by the violent reactions following the verdict. It looks with disfavor on the resultant looting and violence perpetrated in Los Angeles, CA.
