Report from Paris: Colloque International - Les Noirs Americans

Article Abstract:

The Colloque International on Les Noirs Americans Et L'Europe in Paris was attended by multicultural representatives, with scholars from different countries discussing the Afro-American journey to Europe. Comprised of 50 sessions, the conference evaluated the European connection to the African-American quest for freedom as well as in the arts and letters. Support materials and events for the conference included poetry, art exhibitions and video tapes of African-American films. The sessions ended with a tribute to American Richard Wright whose journeys exemplified the South-North-Europe quest for freedom.

Fame and fate: when role models fail

Article Abstract:

The African-American community should consider people who have contributed to the community as their role models and not professional sportsmen who have done little to the community. The African-American community is shocked over the actions of sportsmen such as O.J. Simpson and Mike Tyson since the black considered there men as the heroes of their society. People should admire people such as Jackie Joyuer Kersee who has established a non profit sports foundation and Bill White who set positive examples for the young people emulate.
