Sanctions: sticks to beat rogue states

Article Abstract:

The United States' use of economic sanctions against Cuba, Libya, and Iran may be ineffective in bringing their actions in line with American standards. U.S. sanctions against Iran since 1987 have grown to include Iranian oil interests, in hopes of deterring more severe legislation that would sanction third countries dealing with Iran. Engaging Iran in critical dialog may benefit the U.S. more in the long run.

Companies, corruption and competition

Article Abstract:

The responsibilities and influence of transnational companies have been the subject of debate since the Asian economic crisis began in 1997. International institutions seek to diminish the impact of transnational corruption. The US is no longer the only government that actively investigates and prosecutes its companies for crimes with foreign officials.
