Sans metaphysics, sans beauty: An editorial

Article Abstract:

The architecture of any period os often said to express the Lebensgefuhl of its time, so an reflection on art has to establish itself at the level of principle. The ideological movement led by Picasso and Braque in the early decades of this century aimed to displace natural forms in painting, but no such movement has paralleled this in architecture. The goal appears to be novelty, which has produced a deadening sameness. architecture should be more than civil engineering plus ornamentation.
