Sunshine or sunset?

Article Abstract:

The international community continues to support the failing North Korean government, since South Korea is in no financial condition to rescue its neighbor through reunification. South Korea has instituted joint ventures to build light water reactors and cars in the North. More South Koreans traveled to North Korea in 1998 than in all past years combined.

Time for the tiger to grow up

Article Abstract:

For the first time in its history South Koreans may elect a veteran dissident, Kim Dae-Jung, as president. The new president will need to implement economic reform and force conglomerates and the banking industry to establish sound economic practices. In addition he will need to forge a solid relationship with North Korea.

The Koreas: Kim to Kim

Article Abstract:

Issues discussed concern political relations between North and South Korea, focusing on the Jun 2000 summit between the two countries' leaders, Kim Dae-jung and Kim Jong-il. Topics to be addressed at the summit include the threat of missile attacks, economic policies, and social contact between the two countries.
