The cunning of trust

Article Abstract:

Trust is an important social value which promotes harmonious relationships and productivity among people in a society. Trust can be defined as a person's confidence that he will treated well by others. The notion of trustworthiness is defined as a tendency to be reliable and to deserve the trust of others. Trustworthiness is manifested through the practice of loyalty, virtue and prudence. Trustworthiness has an economic value, as shown by the example of traders who realize that their utility and reputation will be erased by cheating. It is suggested that institutions can enhance trust-responsiveness by giving their personnel a significant degree of freedom in performing their jobs.
