Time to repeal the Public Utility Holding Company Act

Article Abstract:

The Public Utility Holding Company Act of 1935 (PUHCA) should be repealed so that a level playing field and a genuine free market is created in utility industries, such as in electric utility industry. The PUHCA has become costly in the light of changes in utility markets, in the methods and costs of corporate control, in financial markets, in transmission technology and in regulatory techniques. The costs are imposed on shareholders and customers of the industry without any offsetting benefits.

Don't restructure electricity; deregulate

Article Abstract:

Proposals for large-scale changes in the US electric power industry are often described as deregulation when they are instead regulator-imposed alterations in the industry's structure. Regulation contains significant practical and theoretic flaws, so conventionally defined deregulation, removal of government controls, is preferable.
