A longitudinal model of social contact, social support, depression, and alcohol use

Article Abstract:

A model of the effect of social support and depression on alcohol use is discussed. Perceived social support was negatively related to depression, while depression was positively related to alcohol use. There was partial support for the hypothesis that increased alcohol use leads to a decrease in social contacts.

Role of relationship context in influencing college students' responsiveness to HIV prevention video

Article Abstract:

Research about how the effectiveness of an HIV prevention video was influenced by its college student audience being in a relationship is presented. Behavior shifts, condom use rates, and implications for video tapes as part of disease prevention strategy are discussed.

Motivations for condom use: do pregnancy prevention goals undermine disease prevention among heterosexual young adults?

Research suggests heterosexual young adults use condoms for different reasons. Subgroups comprise nonusers, those who wish to prevent sexually transmitted disease, and those wishing to prevent pregnancy.
