Age-specific functions of stone handling, a solitary-object play behavior, in Japanese Macaques (Macaca Fuscata)

Article Abstract:

Data from the first systematic study of stone handling (SH) behavior in a captive troop of Japanese Macaques that were known to exhibit the behavior is presented. Age-related differences in SH performance and behavioral patterns were seen showing possible differences in the immediate cause and ultimate functions between young and adults.

Habitual hot-spring bathing by a group of Japanese Macaques (Macaca fuscata) in their natural habitat

Article Abstract:

A study to examine the casual factors and possible transmission of the behavior of Japanese Macaques (Macaca fuscata) bathing in the hot spring is conducted. Results show that the bathing behavior varies among age and sex categories of monkeys.
