Anorexia nervosa following gastric reduction surgery for morbid obesity

Article Abstract:

Case reports on two patients support the existence of psychological factors which are common to anorexic people and a group of obese people. The two obese patients underwent gastric reduction surgery and later developed anorexia nervosa. Both patients had poor childhood attachments and low self-esteem, and dependency was an important issue for both of them. The cases illustrate the value of psychological assessment in obesity management particularly as preoccupation with weight, food types and eating patterns is an important aspect of gastric reduction surgery aftercare.

Characteristics of interview refusers: women who decline to participate in interviews relating to eating

Article Abstract:

The weight ranges and eating habits of women who refused to participate in semistructured interviews on eating were compared with those who agreed to be interviewed. No difference was observed in terms of weight ranges and eating disorders. Results indicate that groups who decline to participate in interviews related to eating have been wrongly associated with those suffering from eating or weight problems.
