Are people with autism and asperger syndrome faster than normal on the embedded figures test?

Article Abstract:

Experiments to test the performance of adults with autism and Asperger syndrome and to compare them with normal adults were undertaken. Experiment 1 extended a previous Embedded Figures Test (EFT). Experiment 2 used a modified Rey Figure Task. Both clinical groups attained superior EFT performance in the first experiment, as a result of the subjects' 'weak central coherence.' In the second experiment, neither adults with autism nor with Asperger syndrome differed from normal adults in using global outline to reproduce a complex drawing.

The prevalence of Gilles de la Tourtte's syndrome in children and adolescents with autism

Article Abstract:

A study aimed to determine the rate of Gilles de la Tourette's Syndrome (GTS) in a special school population of children and adolescents with autism. A prospective, multi-stage design was used, based on direct observation and family interviews. A minimum prevalence rate of 8.1% was determined. Family history data indicated this was heritable, and the results indicated that the rate of GTS in autism could exceed that expected by chance.

Enhanced discrimination of novel, highly similar stimuli by adults with autism during a perceptual learning task

Article Abstract:

A perceptual learning task was given to high-functioning adults with autism and control adults, to compare discrimination performance on familiar and new stimuli. Control adults were more able to discriminate familiar than new stimuli, but no perceptual learning effect was seen in adults with autism, although they discriminated the new stimuli much better than control adults.
