Attentional biases in eating disorders: a visual probe detection procedure

Article Abstract:

Women patients with bulimia nervosa (N=17) and anorexia nervosa (N=16) and 32 control subjects were asked to participate in a visual probe detection task to examine possible attentional biases for body shape and weight-related stimulus words. The findings showed that subjects with eating disorders tended to turn their attention toward stimulus words associated with fatness and away from those connoting thinness.

Predictors of the accuracy of self-reported height and weight in adolescent female school students

Article Abstract:

Predictors of the accuracy of self-reported values of body weight and height in adolescent females are investigated. It is suggested that when accurate information is required, clinicians should measure height and weight, particularly if the adolescent female is perimenarcheal or appears to differ from population averages for height and weight.
