Beyond the "Self" in self-efficacy: spouse confidence predicts patient survival following heart failure

Article Abstract:

The data from the Michigan sample was used to investigate the prognostic implications of the patient's own self-efficacy judgments, and the spouse's parallel confidence that the patient can manage specific illness-related tasks. It was found that successful adaptation to heart failure appears to involve more than the patient's personal agency, and psychosocial data from spouses can improve prediction of patient outcomes.

Posttraumatic stress disorder and current relationship functioning among World War II ex-prisoners of war

Article Abstract:

The association of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) with the quality of intimate relationships was examined among the present-day male World War II ex-prisoners of war (POWs). The examination revealed that emotional numbing was significantly associated with relationship difficulties independent of other symptom complexes and severity of PTSD, and the implications for critical practice are discussed.
