Body of work: Sexuality in recent American drama

Article Abstract:

Several prominent plays reflecting the American playwright's attention to sexual themes, references to sex in dramatic dialogues and calls for display of sexual activity on stage since 1987 are examined. It is found that with the relaxation of censorship and lax enforcement of decency laws, sexual references to and sexual representations of, the human body, its parts and functions have become common on the American stage.

Sexuality and late modernity

Article Abstract:

Traditional sexual morals are being replaced by a code that emphasizes negotiation between potential sexual partners. Greater awareness of the potential assault sex can entail, decline in institutional influence, and an attempt to rationalize sexual behavior, motivate this phenomenon.

Problems with sexuality after sexual assault

Article Abstract:

Women who have been sexually assaulted often display sexual and psychological problems afterwards. These include depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, fear, and dysfunction with arousal and desire.
