The danger of reducing reimbursement for psychiatric disorders in late life

Article Abstract:

The adoption of cost containment approaches toward health insurance and medical care has placed reimbursement of psychiatric therapy for impaired elderly subjects in danger. Reducing reimbursement for psychiatric disorders in late life gives the impression that the costs of mental health services for psychiatric disorders in older persons are lower than those for other age groups. It also underestimates the use of and the need for mental health services necessary to treat psychiatric disorders in the elderly.

The panic-agoraphobic syndrome: a paradigm of the anxiety group of disorders and its implications for psychiatric practice and theory

Article Abstract:

The panic-agoraphobic disorder fall under the broad category of anxiety disorders. It is different from general anxiety disorder by its symptoms and frequency of attack. Epidemiological research suggests that panic-agoraphobic disorder is more prevalent in females, in nonwhites and in less educated persons. Clinical studies suggest a neurological basis for this disorder that is associated with a disturbance in the activity of the cerebral function system.
