Giving the discipline new life and overcoming fruitless dualities

Article Abstract:

Klaus Riegel was one the pioneers of dialectical thinking. He believed that there should be a healthy mix of science and scholarship. He offered a formula that avoided the treatment of race and biology as separate fields of study. Biology needed to defined socially as society needed to recognize its dependence on biology. Riegel also believed that structuralism in central Europe and behaviorism in the UK had its roots in the prevailing social, historical, and economic conditions of the time.

Relationships among theoretical traditions

Article Abstract:

Four alternative visions of the relationships among theoretical traditions were suggested to be of great help in the understanding and evaluation of Teo's article. These alternatives were exclusivism, inclusivism, detachment, and caring. Teo has identified three extended theoretical families that cannot be easily disseminated by traditional developmentalists which identified the need for alternative readings of his article and alternative visions of the relationships.
