Conflict management by hamadryas baboons (Papio hamadryas hamadryas) during crowding: A tension-reduction strategy

Article Abstract:

A short-term crowding experiment was conducted on a captive group of hamadryas baboons (Papio hamadryas hamadryas) to determine whether they exhibited patterns of behavioral change and also to examine whether their unique social system would affect conflict management between particular partners. The results have shown that the pattern of behavior displayed by this group conforms to an active tension-reduction strategy in which animals successfully reduce the higher risk of aggression during crowding.

One-male units and clans in a colony of hamadryas baboons (Papio hamadryas hamadryas): Effect of male number and clan cohesion of feeding success

Article Abstract:

A study on the effect of male number and rivalry between males within a clan on their ability to compete for access to a clumped food resource at a multilevel colony of hamadryas baboons housed at the Madrid Zoo is conducted. It suggests that both males and females derived clear advantages in the context of between-group competition for access to clumped food resources if they were members of clans.

Behavioral variation and reproductive success of male baboons (Papio anubis x Papio hamadryas) in a hybrid social group

Article Abstract:

A study conducted to explore the causes and consequences of the mating strategies of hamadryas and anubis male hybrid baboons, living in the same social group, is presented. Results reveal that their behavior has no absolute negative impact on their practice of living together in a social group.
