Crime and chaos: applying nonlinear dynamic principles to problems in criminology

Article Abstract:

Chaos theory can be used as a tool for criminology, but certain adjustments must be made before a theory originating in the physical sciences can be used for human behavior. Time, for example, may be a function of human behavior that can be equated to temperature in the physical sciences. Chaos theory includes holism and nonlinear dynamics, which posit events can be understood only in terms of an entire system in which individuals operate, and systems includes unpredictable events.
