Demand-withdraw couple interaction moderates retention in cognitive-behavioral versus family-systems treatments for alcoholism

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze relational Attribute x Treatment interactions (ATI) based on the treatment dimensions associated with demand-withdraw interaction patterns in alcohol-involved couples. A data collection protocol was utilized to determine drinking behavior before, during and after treatment. Results revealed the importance of relational moderators in ATI studies. Findings also correlated family relationship attributes with differential responses to couple treatments for alcohol abuse.

Integrating models of interdependence with treatment evaluations in marital therapy research

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to characterize structural equation frameworks of marital interdependence which can be utilized in the results of clinical trials on marital therapy. The models supported tests for treatment effects novel to relationship system interventions. The frameworks also accommodated treatment variables and solutions for analyzing data from clinical interventions through sources of non-independence of observations.

Timing is everything: pre-engagement cohabitation and increased risk for poor marital outcomes

Article Abstract:

The differences among couples that cohabited before engagement, after engagement, or not until marriage are examined using data from a longitudinal study. The findings suggest that those who cohabit before engagement are at a greater risk for poor marital outcomes than those who cohabit only after engagement or at marriage.
