Dexamethasone suppression test and response to cognitive therapy and antidepressant medication

Article Abstract:

The dexamethasone suppression test (DST) is a test for dysfuntion associated with major depression or melancholia. An investigation was conducted to compare the differential responsiveness of normal and abnormal DST responders to cognitive therapy, versus tricyclic medication. The results showed that subtyping of depressives into normal and abnormal DST responders was not useful in predicting responsiveness to tricyclic medication versus cognitive therapy. In addition, results showed thatDST is useful prognostically, but not treatment-wise.
