Differential predictive power of the positively versus the negatively worded items of the life orientation test

Article Abstract:

A Life Orientation Test was administered to 202 Hong Kong undergraduate students, but the factorial structure of the test was altered. In prior findings studies of this nature show optimists, compared with their pessimistic peers, are less effected by stress-related physical symptoms. This study concluded the health benefits linked to optimism can only be determined when the optimism and pessimism are studied in context of positive versus negative affectivity.

PSM-R: revised optimism-pessimism scale for the MMPl-2 and MMPI

Article Abstract:

The Revised Optimism-Pessimism (PSM-R) scale permits researchers to use MMPI and MMP-2 tests to learn about the relationship between explanatory style and probable treatment results. Such a style is given a score between optimistic and pessimistic by using 263 MMPI items for the optimism-pessmism scale. Reliability estimates show that the PSM-R scale is as reliable as the original PSM scale. Norms are based on a random sample of adults.

Police officer candidate MMPI-2 performance: gender, ethnic, and normative factors

Article Abstract:

Induction of the Minnesota multiphasic personality inventory-2 (MMPI-2) as part of an employment screening program to 84 police officer candidates reveals both white and minority police officer applicants to give defensive answers and to describe themselves as healthy, confident people comfortable with problems. The normative patterns linked with gender and ethnicity are discussed.
