Eating disturbances and outcome of gastric bypass surgery: a pilot study

Article Abstract:

The impact on the outcome of gastric bypass surgery (GBP) of the interaction between an individual's eating disturbance status prior to GBP and length of time since surgery is examined. Results revealed that both current eating disturbance status and weight regain were predicted by the interaction between presurgical eating disturbance status and length of time since surgery. This implies that patients with a presurgical eating disorder may experience a short-term improvement in their eating disorder after GBP. However, this improvement erodes on or after two years and is related to weight regain.

Anorexia nervosa following gastroplasty in the male: two cases

Article Abstract:

The progress of two obese males who underwent gastroplasty are discussed to illustrate some of the problems that may occur after the operation. The two males experienced identity confusion and, subsequently, suffered from anorexia nervosa. The two cases emphasize the need for psychiatric assessments before patients are subjected to bariatric surgery to prevent the development of anorexia nervosa.
