Eating disorders in adolescence in a Swiss epidemiological study

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to determine the prevalence rates for anorexia nervosa (AN) and bulimia nervosa (BN) among a sample of Swiss adolescents aged between 14 and 17. The findings revealed that around 10% to 15% of the participating teen-age girls dieted and feared getting fat, which are the core characteristics of the two eating disorders. The prevalence rates for adolescent girls suffering from AN and those with BN were found to be 0.7% and 0.5%, respectively.
