Esteem maintenance among groups: laboratory and field studies of group performance cognitions

Article Abstract:

The results of two experiments viz. a laboratory and another field experiment carried out with 144 managers from thirty-five different organizations in the age group of 24 to 47 years and members of 242 groups with each group having 4 to 5 members working in a multinational bank respectively to find out the positive and negative effect of Group Self-Esteem (GSE) vis-a-vis their productivity have been described. The procedures used in the study have been discussed. The shortcomings of this study have been provided.

Developing consensus about groupthink after all these years

Article Abstract:

The groupthink model developed some 25 years ago by Janis in 1972 has been acknowledged for contributing both positively and adversely to group dynamics by experts. McCauley (1997) has recognized the pertinence of groupthink to group brainstorming literature of of Diehl and Stroebe (1987) and Osborn (1957). He believed that only after carefully evaluating all possible alternatives should the group decide on a course of action.

Idea generation in groups: a basis for creativity in organizations

Article Abstract:

Suggestions for boosting productivity in idea-generating groups are presented. It is argued that the group-writing technique produces greater productivity than individual writing.
