Ethnic identity, self-esteem, and perceived efficacy as mediators of the relation of supportive parenting to psychosocial outcomes among urban adolescents

Article Abstract:

The direct and indirect relationships among supportive parenting, ethnic identity, self-esteem, perceived efficacy, and psychological adjustment in an urban sample of some African American and European American adolescents are examined. The importance of examining developmental models separately for adolescents from different ethnic/racial backgrounds is illustrated.

Brief report: An examination of the relationships between parental monitoring, self-esteem and delinquency among Mexican American male adolescents

Article Abstract:

A study investigated relationships between parental monitoring, self-esteem, and delinquency among 95 adjudicated Mexican American male adolescents who were on probationary status with the juvenile justice system. Findings revealed that parental monitoring was negatively associated with delinquency while self-esteem was positively correlated.

Parental attachment, academic achievement, life events and their relationship to alcohol and drug use during adolescence

Article Abstract:

The relationships between parental attachment, academic achievement, life events, and substance use among rural youth are examined. It is found that adolescents who perceived themselves as having a close relationship with their parents has lower levels of substance use.
