Family support, coping strategies, and depressive symptoms among mothers of children with diabetes

Article Abstract:

Family support leads to greater use of positive coping strategies and less depression among mothers of chronically ill children, as evidenced by a study of mothers of children with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. The study is a contribution to an emerging interest in connecting the literatures of family psychology and pediatric health psychology.

Relationship between child sleep disturbances and maternal sleep, mood, and parenting stress: A pilot study

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to find the relationship between children's sleep disruption and maternal sleep and dynamic functioning. Regression analysis indicated that the quality of the children's sleep considerably predicted the quality of maternal sleep, while maternal sleep was an important predictor of maternal mood, stress, and fatigue.

Maternal variations in stress reactivity: Implications for harsh parenting practices with very young children

Article Abstract:

Study is conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the cognitively enhanced home-visitation program in preventing harsh or abusive parenting. The findings have clinical implications for the ways in which parental empowerment can serve to reduce stress and thus the negative outcomes at risk children may experience.
