Getting real about rape

Article Abstract:

Thornhill and Thornhill's propositions namely, that reproduction and sexual access to women can be done through rape, that attitudes toward rape vary according to social costs and benefits and their corollary implications are explored using biblical examples, customs, traditions and laws among the ancient Israelites. It is observed that rape is absent among societies which punish rapists severely. It is also noted that men during biblical times have the predominance to rape as an expression of aggressive dominant behavior especially during times of war.

Men are not born to rape

Article Abstract:

Objections are presented in the way Thornhill and Thornhill simplify a complex human social behaviour such as rape into the action of few molecules from evolutionary history. The research methodology is similarly criticized as inappropriate and misleading in connection with evolutionary theory and adaptationist model. Three conditions are given to show how male coercive sexuality can be a result of natural selection. Rape research cannot be isolated from human social conditions and historical context.
