Heart rate variability during sympatho-excitory challenges: comparison between spontaneous and metronomic breathing

Article Abstract:

This article examines the influence of respiration on heart rate variablity, suggesting the need to control respiration in experimental circumstances, however it also creates an increase in heart rate. The authors attempted to arrive at autonomic function both with and without use of controlled respiration rate, finding that metronomic breathing and spontaneous breathing are similar.

Alzheimer's: no pain or no complain?

Article Abstract:

An examination is presented on the low administration of analgesics to patients with Alzheimer's disease, and whether this is associated with patients feeling less pain or due to their restricted ability to report their pain to others. It is posited that a low-dose aspirin regime may yield health benefits analogous to the principles supporting such a regime for other ailments.

Clinician's comment on the management of pain in arthritis

Article Abstract:

The objectives of therapy for arthritis include reducing pain, enhancing the function of body parts, and improving the quality of life. Pain in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) differs from osteoarthritis (OA) since RA invloves systemic inflammation wile OA is a degenerative process. Psychosocial interventions in OA and RA are also discussed.
