International perspectives on children's testimony: an introduction to the issues

Article Abstract:

Legal approaches to child sexual abuse cases differ widely across countries. In some countries, such as the US, children are expected to testify in public. In others, children involved in sexual abuse cases are shielded from the possible trauma of a courtroom appearance since expert witnesses testify on their behalf. The differences in legal approaches to the problem is reflected in the legal reforms undertaken in various countries. Most of these reforms are aimed at ensuring that sexually abused children are provided sufficient protection from the stress of legal proceedings.

Resistance viewed from different perspectives

Article Abstract:

Many psychotherapists acknowledge the concept of resistance and its importance in their practices. They believe that patients encounter dangers during therapy and resistance is just a form of protection. Psychotherapists should recognize and respect the existence of resistance in psychoanalysis rather than try to eliminate it quickly. Many psychotherapists also believe in the idea of counterresistance in therapy.
