Interpersonal attachment cognitions and prediction of symptomatic responses to interpersonal stress

Article Abstract:

Young adult women particularly those with adolescent experiences of depression are susceptible to recurrence of clinical depression. They are likely to become young depressed women with children who suffer depression and other disorders, which is a step in the intergenerational transmission of depression. There is a need to understand and prevent depression. The study tests a cognitive-interpersonal hypothesis of depression by examining how interpersonal cognitions can be used to predict depression related to interpersonal stressors.

Poor interpersonal problem solving as a mechanism of stress generation in depression among adolescent women

Article Abstract:

A longitudinal study of C. Hammen's stress generation model of depression with 140 women aged between 17-18 shows that interpersonal stress regulates the association between initial and follow-up depressive symptoms. Initial symptoms of depression and poor problem solving contribute to interpersonal stress, which leads to further depressive symptoms. The study failed to show any direct relationship between depressive symptoms and interpersonal problem solving, however.

Dimensions of dysfunctional attitudes as vulnerabilities to depressive symptoms

Article Abstract:

A considerable relationship exists between the dimension of the Dysfunctional Attitude Scale, calculated by the Perfectionistic Achievement factor, and enhanced depressive symptoms in response to poorer-than-expected performance. The test of cognitive diathesis-stress model of depression, performed on a group of undergraduate students, detected increased depressive symptoms.
