Interpersonal problems and the psychotherapy context: the construct validity of the Inventory of Interpersonal Problems

Article Abstract:

A direct correlation between patients' self reports on the Inventory of Interpersonal Problems (IIP) and therapists' judgments of interpersonal functioning indicates the convergent validity of the inventory. Interpersonal problems in a psychotherapeutic setting are categorized according to four problem types, Friendly Dominant, Hostile Dominant, Friendly Submissive and Hostile Submissive. Hostile dominant patients report reduced levels of empathic resonance with the therapist. Each problem type is associated with a set of interpersonal features.

Assessment of childhood social phobia: construct, convergent, and discriminative validity of the Social Phobia and Anxiety Inventory for Children (SPAI-C)

Article Abstract:

The Social Phobia and Anxiety Inventory for Children (SPAI-C) helps to understand the phenomenology of childhood social phobia and differentiates children with such disorders from those with externalizing disorders. Social phobic children score high on the SPAI-C and report more distressing events. Distress associated with anxiety provoking events is higher in children with social phobia than in the normal children. The SPAI-C is useful as a clinical and research tool.
