Introducing the New Health Psychology Series 'Evidence-Based Treatment Reviews': Progress not perfection

Article Abstract:

Medicine has been dealing with the issue of how to translate research findings into evidence-based assessment and treatments, the process of joining this research is known as Evidence-Based Medicine. Evidence-Based Behavioral Medicine is an extension of the Evidence-Based Medicine movement that identified the necessity of critically evaluating research to inform clinical practice.

Promoting the maintenace of health behavior change: recommendations for the next generation of research and practice

Article Abstract:

Recommendations for further research regarding health behavior change are given. These include the need for new models that combine individual-level with broader macro-level and environmental influences, a more complete model of the maintenance process, and more interdisciplinary research on the maintenance process.

Prevention and health promotion: decades of progress, new challenges, and an emerging agenda

The role of health behavior in the development and prevention of serious illness and premature death has been a major focus of health psychology. Future challenges and opportunities in the field, such as changing demographics and health patterns, incorporation of new technologies in risk reduction are discussed.
