Intuitive and empirical prototypes in childhood psychopathology

Article Abstract:

The validity of intuitive classifications of experienced clinicians is examined. To determine whether these classifications are similar to empirical prototypes, the intuitive prototypes used by 10 diagnosticians in two tasks are compared to the empirical core syndromes cited in T.M. Achenbach's Child Behavior Checklist assessment system. Findings show poor correlation between intuitive prototypes and empirical prototypes.

Use of the MMPI-2 in American Indians: comparability of the MMPI-2 between two tribes and with the MMPI-2 normative group

Article Abstract:

A sample of 535 Southwestern and 297 Plains American Indian tribal members with contrasting socio-cultural and historical origins was studied. Findings reveal that the significantly higher T scores on the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2) from the normative group were indicative of the adverse historical, social and economic conditions of the 2 American Indian groups.

Article Abstract:

The first generation Vietnamese refugees in the US were made to complete the Vietnamese Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2), and the Harvard Trauma Questionnaire.
