Long-term effects of psychological trauma on psychosocial functioning

Article Abstract:

A study of the impact of psychological trauma on mental health in view of psychosocial functioning is done by interviewing 217 survivors of the sunk ship Jupiter, along with a control group. The study shows that effects of psychosocial functioning following traumatic experience are mediated by psychopathology, while the post traumatic stress and depression have different association with impairments of psychosocial functionings.

Psychological screening of children for post-traumatic stress disorder

Article Abstract:

Children attending a hospital accident and emergency department were interviewed after completing the Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) screening battery proposed by Yule and Udwin. 22.9% were found to fulfill the DSM-IV criteria for PTSD. 36 children were reassessed eight months post trauma and all with persistent PTSD were correctly identified by initial screen scores.

A randomized controlled trial to determine the effectiveness of an early psychological intervention with children involved in road traffic accidents

Article Abstract:

An investigation on whether an early intervention using a psychological debriefing format is effective in preventing psychological distress in child road traffic accident survivors is presented. The specific intervention did not result in additional gains although the structured assessment provided for both groups might be helpful in reducing subsequent pathology.
