Mother- and father-infant attachment: families in context

Article Abstract:

It is important to take into account the family context under which infant-parent attachment develops. This context seems to function differently in the development of the infant-father attachment relationship and in the development of the infant-mother attachment relationship. It has been established that fathers of sons in dual-income households are less sensitive towards their children during play and are lower in marital expression of affection. Infant-father attachment, but not infant-mother attachment, is connected with family type, with the father-son dyad being more likely to be insecure in dual-income households.

Effects of attachment-based interventions on maternal sensitivity and infant attachment: Differential susceptibility of highly reactive infants

Article Abstract:

An intervention study was aimed at breaking the potential intergenerational cycle of insecure attachment. The interventions were most effective for highly reactive children and their mothers, providing experiment support for Belsky's hypothesis of highly reactive versus less reactive children's evolutionary based differential susceptibility to rearing influences.
