Motion and edge sensitivity in perception of object unity

Article Abstract:

Observation by adults and infants of the unity of a center-occluded moving rod with misaligned visible edges was examined on the basis of four experiments. Results indicated that while alignment information helped perception of object unity by infants, the moving rod with misaligned edges disturbed this perception, although infants are able to establish connectedness over a period of time by means of spatiotemporal integration.

Infants use meter to categorize rhythms and melodies: Implications for musical structure learning

Article Abstract:

A habituation paradigm is employed to examine whether 7-month-old infants could categorize rhythmic and melodic patterns on the basis of the underlying meter, which was implied from event and accent frequency of occurrence. The results indicate that infants can infer meter from rhythmic patterns, and that they may use the metrical structure to bootstrap their knowledge acquisition in music learning.

Representation and perception of scenic layout

Article Abstract:

Theoretical claims that exposure to images of scenes or primes can stimulate a comprehensive mental representation of the scene's layout and spatial perceptions within scenes were tested through various experiments. The representations of scenes activated by primes were substantial, meaningful, and complete in all respects.
