Multisystemic therapy: an effective violence prevention approach for serious juvenile offenders

Article Abstract:

The Multisystemic Therapy (MST) method has been successful in decreasing the violence and crimes committed by adolescents. MST considers the different aspects of antisocial behavior from an individualistic angle and has a flexible approach. Teenagers who exhibit antisocial behavior, such as staying out all night or carrying arms, are more likely to be victimized and commit criminal offences. Changing high risk behavior can minimize the chances of their committing the crime.

Multisystemic treatment: a meta-analysis of outcome studies

Article Abstract:

Studies done on the effectiveness of multisystemic treatment (MST) in treating antisocial and associated behaviors in a range of youth and family populations by quantifying and summarizing the magnitude of effects (treatment outcomes) across all eligible MST outcome studies are presented. It is concluded that as an empirically established treatment for violent and chronic juvenile offenders, MST is found to be worthy of wider implementation and continued evaluation.
