Neurocognitive complications of HIV disease

Article Abstract:

An overview of neurocognitive complications associated with HIV disease was presented. The benefits of pharmacological approaches in treating HIV-related neurocognitive disorders were examined. Some of the brain abnormalities in patients with HIV-related cognitive dysfunction include atrophy, white-matter lesions and abnormal metabolism. Results of cross-sectional computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging studies have indicated increases in ventricular and sulcal spaces, and minimized gray-matter and white-matter volumes.
