Commentary: On Harwood

Article Abstract:

A report on pioneering group work by Irene Harwood in relation to mother-infant pairs in a Latino community about psychotherapy, selfobject relations, and cross-cultural communication and treatment is presented. It is concluded that optimism is an important attitude to sustain in work with children and their families, considering the difficulties one faces while living in a global village.

Martin S. Livingston and Louisa R. Livingston discuss an issue related with self psychological, intersubjective, and relational perspective on therapeutic action is addressed. It is concluded that therapy works optimally when it is 'empathically guided and informed'.
