Personality Assessment Inventory substance-use scales: convergent and discriminant relations with the Addiction Severity Index in a residential chemical dependence treatment setting

Article Abstract:

Research into the convergent and discriminant validity of the Personality Assessment Index (PAI) Alcohol Problems (ALC) and Drug Problems (DRG) scales in a residential chemical dependence treatment programme has found that the ALC and DRG scales show good internal consistency. The ALC and DRG scales showed convergent relations with the Addiction Severity Index (ASI) Alcohol and Drug Composite scores. There was a negative correlation between the PAI ALC scale and the ASI Drug Composite score.

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2) is an appropriate method of assessment for drug-dependent pregnant women. In clinical applications of MMPI-2, the three primary subtypes identified were Type I with no clinical elevation, Type II with higher psychopathic deviate scale, and Type III with elevations on all the MMPI-2 scales.
