Piece rates, output restriction, and conformism

Article Abstract:

The relationship between group output norms and work effort in piece work is explored. It was hypothesized that when piece rates are subject to revision, conformism to group norms via lower group effort is likely or the group will resort to a number of schemes to lower production output. Some are examples of piece rate schemes: one, ratebusters have below average disutility of effort and two, workers will oppose changes in technology since they fear it will lower their piece rates.

Presence seeking and sensation seeking as motives for international travel

Article Abstract:

Presence seeking and sensation seeking are related and provide the same important motive for a variety of activities. However the similarities are not present in college students' motives for international travel. Scorers who were scored high on sensation did not necessarily select experiences associated with a sense of presence as a motive for travel.
