Poor parenting as an adult problem behaviour: General deviance, deviant attitudes, inadequate family support and bonding, or just bad parents?

Article Abstract:

The extent to which mother's self-reported parenting practices are linked to certain deviant attitudes and behaviours, such as polydrug problems, criminal activities and social conformity, was examined. Two possible predictors of poor parenting were tested. Deviant attitudes and adolescent family support/bonding, significantly predicted poor parenting. The data did not support the hypothesis that adult deviant attitudes would be expressed in adult deviant behaviors, including poor parenting.

Parenting the premature infant: Balancing vulnerability and quality of life

Article Abstract:

The relationships between child quality of life (QOL), maternal well being and parenting were explored in a questionnaire study of mothers of full term (FT) babies and mothers of pre-term (PT) babies. Results suggested that though mothers of PT infants reported more physical health and behavioral difficulties than mother of FT infants, specific parenting styles could contribute to child difficulties and QOL in both infants and their mothers.
