Positive marital illusions: self-enhancement or relationship enhancement?

Article Abstract:

Positive marital illusions show stronger association with quality of relationship than with optimism, pessimism, or social desirability. Positive marital illusions are measured by Idealistic Distortion Scale and a measure of the future of the marriage. The positive illusion about the future of marriage is evident as the expected chances of divorce and estrangement are much less than the actual occurrence. Optimism and pessimism fail to show any relation to future of marriage when marriage satisfaction is controlled.

Life task appraisals, spouse involvement in strategies, and daily affect among short- and long-term married couples

Article Abstract:

The predictors and consequences of spouses' involvement in each others' strategies were examined for pursuing life tasks. Results indicated that interdependence in life task appraisals prospectively predicted greater spouse involvement, which was also associated with more positive affect for that day.
