Prevalence of co-occurring disorders among juveniles committed to detention centers

Article Abstract:

The Practical Adolescent Diagnostic Interview (PADDI), a structured diagnostic interview designed to gather basic information about substance use disorders, mental health conditions and related experience, was used in routine evaluation of all adolescents committed to two juvenile detention centers. A study conducted on 252 admitted adolescents to assess and explore the interrelationship among these problems showed that a majority of adolescents manifested multiple problems.

Correlates and predictors of self-reported suicide attempts among incarcerated youths

Article Abstract:

The correlates and predictors of suicidal behaviors among 900 young offenders in detention centers in South Australia are investigated. The results show that young offenders are a high-risk population with quarter of the youth reporting suicidal ideation and more than a quarter reporting having made a suicide attempt.

The effectiveness of art therapy in reducing depression in prison populations

Article Abstract:

The Formal Elements Art Therapy Scale and the Beck Depression Inventory-Short Form that were two pilot and follow-up study are discussed. Results showed a significant decrease in depressive symptoms in those inmates who participated in the program.
