Reasons for living in a clinical sample of adolescents

Article Abstract:

Researchers investigated the validity of the Reasons for Living Inventory (RFL) as an assessment tool for adolescents. They used the RFL Inventory with a group of 253 adolescent patients in a psychiatric hospital. The RFL, after some adjustment, clearly identified the suicidal individuals in the group, and also differentiated the individuals who had attempted suicide from those with suicidal thoughts. Results confirm the validity of the RFL as an assessment tool for adolescents, and also corroborate findings concerning the lack of positive belief systems in suicidal people.

Suicidal ideation in adolescents: psychometric properties of the Suicidal Ideation Questionnaire in a clinical sample

Article Abstract:

The validity of the Suicidal Ideation Questionnaire (SIQ) is evaluated. The SIQ was developed to identify suicidal ideation in teenagers. Results show that SIQ can accurately predict suicidal cognition and can discriminate between hospitalized suicidal teenagers from hospitalized teenagers with no suicidal behavior. The SIQ also contains a number of items which can be used for the short screening of suicidal ideation.
